Reflexology: Marie Vagen & Norah Jane Brasington

Marie is a holistic reflexologist specialising in stress-reduction. Marie feels that stress is often the root cause for various health issues and she knows a whole lot about how damaging to the body and mind a consistent stress-filled life can be.

During her first career, Marie saw, first hand, the damaging effects of stress on people in-the-Meedya (within film, newspaper, and standup comedy) and wanted to do something about it. In the last decade she

has ratched up skills within the personal development field and complementary therapies (reflexology, metamorphic technique, and counselling) - all of which she uses where appropriate.

At the Snowsfields Wellness Marie gives traditional Reflexology treatments (on the feet), Spinal Reflexology (stimulating the spinal reflexes on the feet) and Hand Reflexology, as well as associated treatments like Metamorphic Technique. Metamorphic Technique involves Marie using her hands to 'brush' the spinal area on the client's feet, hands and head.

Marie is particularly interested in helping clients jump start their journey toward better living, with less stress and pain.

She is skilled in working with clients of all ages including babies and the very frail elderly, and also clients living with arthritis, mood-disorders, and cancer.

Marie has found that reflexology can help smooth the transition to smoke-free living. Marie also gives reflexology to support those grieving as well as to helping one achieve and support a viable pregnancy Pre-conceptual, Pregnancy & Post Natal Reflexology.

Norah is an holistic therapist with Reflexology being one of her skills and has undertaken specialist ‘Reproflexology’ training as she has a particular interest in fertility issues.  She is also qualified to work

Conception is a complex matter of health and well-being and needs a number of things for both the mother and father to be ready and balanced in order to succeed.  A woman’s hormones must be correctly balanced for the egg to develop normally and she must be ovulating so that the egg is released.  There are only 2-3 days per month when a woman is fertile.  The male partner must have healthy strong sperm to reach the egg and fertilise it!  The embryo then has to implant securely in the lining of the womb, which in turn needs to have the right levels of progesterone to maintain a healthy pregnancy!

If you are struggling to conceive this is a difficult time for you and your partner and can be an emotionally exhausting time. It can be quite common for it to take two to three years of trying to become pregnant. Some couples may be fertile but just never have the implantation stage succeed, some may have perfect implantation mechanisms but never have a baby because fertilisation fails.  In actuality, having a baby is about the interconnection of the two systems to allow conception -, it’s all about balance! There can be many different causes such as age, diet & lifestyle and hormone imbalances but stress is a major factor.

Reflexology is a holistic therapy both old and new that incorporates specific pressure techniques applied to the feet or hands to activate the body’s own healing power.  Through more than 7000 nerve endings on the feet and hands by stimulating these points we can link up to all the organs, glands & tissues in the body encouraging the opening and clearing of neural pathways to allow natural healing.

‘Reproflexology’ may help prepare your body for conception by ‘kick starting’ the body’s endocrine system, balancing hormones to help boost ovulation and to create the best body ecology to help achieve a viable pregnancy.  My aim is to support couples on their fertile journey; offering Reflexology as a relaxing time for you during this stressful time. We aim to create a healthier environment for your baby to grow, working together to balance blood sugar levels to help keep the rest of the body’s hormones maintained at the right level together with helping the body to expel environmental toxins and synthetic hormones to increase the chances of conceiving.

Sperm take about four months to mature so potential fathers need to be health-conscious for five months before conception so that they can produce healthy sperm; so reflexology treatments are also recommended for Dad too.

I will tailor a course of treatments depending on your cycles with follow up treatments at particular times of the month to stimulate ovulation.

I am also qualified to work with pregnancy too

Reflexology is safe throughout pregnancy providing you see someone with specific training in pregnancy reflexology.  The treatments in themselves are very gentle with no direct pressure on the Uterus reflex point during this time. Reflexology sessions are a great way to relax and give the internal organs a chance to ‘breath’ and may help to relieve some of the symptoms of pregnancy.

There is some anecdotal evidence to suggest that pregnancy reflexology can help to bring on labour, providing both mother and baby are ready.  We would always recommend that Mums-to-be start their treatments at least six weeks prior to their due date.

After 38 weeks to labour we use a much firmer pressure focussing on stimulating the production of Oxytocin to help‘naturally’ induce labour to help towards a natural birth, especially if the due date has past, this may reduce the need for medical intervention. Treatment at this time may intensify contractions during labour and reduce labour time.  Combination treatments of Reflexology & Hypnotherapy at this stage can be very calming leading up to and preparing your mind and body for Birth. Twice weekly sessions are recommended at this stage.

Single 1 hour sessions are charged at £65

10% discount  for X6 sessions when booked in advance.

Norah is available at Snowsfields Wellness on Fridays 3.30-7.30pm other times may be available by arrangement.
